STAFF REPORT - CITY COUNCIL/SUCCESSOR AGENCY/PUBLIC FINANCE AUTHORITY

Subject:Authorize Staff to Purchase Water Efficient/Water Saving Shower Fixtures for Distribution to Citizens on a First Come First Serve Basis
Meeting Date:Thursday, March 16, 2023
From:Marissa Trejo, City Manager
Prepared by:Larry Miller, Public Works & Utilities Coordinator

I.    RECOMMENDATION:

It is staff’s recommendation to authorize the purchase of 70 valves and 30 water efficient shower heads.

II.    BACKGROUND:

During the March 2nd City Council Meeting, Councilman Vosburg requested a Future Agenda item to purchase water saving shower fixtures and distribute them to citizens on a first come first serve basis.

It was requested that staff investigate buying in bulk and providing for 70 shower heads with an on/off feature and 30 valves which could accommodate any shower fixture.

III.   DISCUSSION:

Unfortunately, staff was unable to source any shower heads with an on/off feature in bulk from a reputable dealer.  However, reputable dealers were found for simple on/off valves and water efficient “WaterSense” certified shower heads.  These are the products that Staff has found:

Water Sense Shower Head

Valve

IV.   ALTERNATIVES:

  • Purchase a different number of valves/shower heads at the discretion of the council.
  • Attempt to source different products.

V.    FISCAL IMPACT:

The total cost would be $1,384.57 with tax and shipping included.  This would be an unbudgeted purchase from the Water Distribution fund.  Here is the cost breakdown:

  • 70 Valves –  $662.20 ($9.46/ea)
  • 30 Showerheads - $620.10 ($20.67/ea)
  • Tax – $102.27
  • Shipping - Free
