| | | | | | | | | Subject: | Council Consideration of Funding the Train to Transport Vistors During the Weekend of the Horned Toad Derby | | Meeting Date: | Thursday, May 7, 2026 | | From: | Sean Brewer, City Manager | | Prepared by: | Sean Brewer, City Manager |
| | |
| | | | | | | | I. RECOMMENDATION:
Staff is seeking direction from the Council to consider funding the trackless train for the Coalinga Horned Toad Derby this Year to transport visitors during the weekend.
II. BACKGROUND:
The City was made aware that the Chamber of Commerce will not be funding the trackless train this year due to increased costs. The trackless train has been providing services, funded by the Chamber, for several years providing convenient transportation for several residents and visitors throughout the City to and from the Derby.
III. DISCUSSION:
Mayor Pro-Tem Schindler is requesting the Council to consider funding the train to ensure increased transportation options for residents and victors of the horned toad derby. If the Council desires to fund the trackless train, staff would work with the Chamber and Vendor to decide on the most cost effective approach within the City Managers spending authority.
IV. ALTERNATIVES:
V. FISCAL IMPACT:
If Council chooses to proceed with supporting the trackless train, staff would request a budget no more than $10,000 for the weekend and to authorize the City Manager to execute any necessary agreements or transfer of fund to ensure the train runs at the Derby. | | |
