I. RECOMMENDATION:
Provide direction to the City Manager to negotiate an agreement with the Coalinga-Huron Unified School District (CHUSD) to facilitate the opening of the CHUSD Aquatic Facility for public use during Summer 2026.
II. BACKGROUND:
The CHUSD Aquatic Facility serves as a key recreational asset within the community and provides opportunities for residents, particularly youth and families, to access aquatic programming during the summer months.
For Summer 2026, The City Council has expressed interest in having the CHUSD community pool open duirng the summer in some capacity, consisting primarily of community swim opportunities.
III. DISCUSSION:
The City is currently in communication with CHUSD regarding opportunities to support the opening of the aquatic facility this summer. Staff anticipates having additional details available at the May 7th meeting. As of the writing of this report, those details are still being finalized; however, staff expects to have sufficient information to support Council consideration and provide direction to negotiate an agreement to facilitate opening the facility.
IV. ALTERNATIVES:
None at this time.
V. FISCAL IMPACT:
At this time, a cost sharing plan and estimate is undetermined, however, once staff has more information, fiscal impacts will be provided before an arrangement is finalized. Staff hope to have financial information by the meeting on May 7th. | | |
