I. RECOMMENDATION:
Authorize the City Manager to accept the quote from Municipal Maintenance Equipment (MME) for street sweeper repair in the amount of $32,586.51.
II. BACKGROUND:
The gutter broom of the City's primary street sweeper has had multiple failures in operation. The hydraulic system had debris from an unconfirmed source, presumed to be from motor malfunction. MME has attempted isolated repair of the system, however a near full hydraulic system repair/replacement has been needed, as debris has contaminated the entire hydraulic system.
III. DISCUSSION:
This quote is the third, and final, quote received from MME, as the price has escalated as more damage to the hydraulic system has been discovered through testing of the sweeper broom after initial repair has shown further malfunction. MME management has acknowledged the duration of repairs, and the continued cost escalation as unacceptable, and is confident that this authorization will allow for a fully repaired machine to be delivered rapidly.
IV. ALTERNATIVES:
- Authorize the City Manager to accept the repair quote from MME in the amount of $32,586.51,
- Do Not Authorize the repair. The result will be an inoperable street sweeper without a clear path toward alternative repair.
V. FISCAL IMPACT:
The fiscal impact will be $32,586.51 to the street sweeping fund. Due to the urgency of an item a budget adjustment resolution was not prepared as of this report however, a budget adjustment will be provided to the City Council at the next meeting in the amount of $54,686.36 to adjust for the prior maintenance and repair expenses to date. | | |
