Meeting Date:Thursday, April 7, 2022
From:Marissa Trejo, City Manager
Prepared by:Marissa Trejo, City Manager

I.    RECOMMENDATION:

The Police Chief and City Manager recommend that the City Council approve the expansion of the Police Department's Community Video Policing Program.

II.    BACKGROUND:

The City applied and was approved for a CIRA grant in the amount of $48,627.30 to purchase 6 additional cameras to expand the Police Department's Community Video Policing Program.

III.   DISCUSSION:

Approval of the expansion of the Police Department's Community Video Policing Program authorizes the Police Chief to purchase 6 additional cameras and locate 3 around the schools with the other 3 being located at selected high crime intersections.

This will enhance safety around the schools and assist in following up on investigations.

IV.   ALTERNATIVES:

Do not approve (not recommended).

V.    FISCAL IMPACT:

This is an unbudgeted expense, but it will not have a negative impact on the City's budget or General Fund as the expense is fully covered by the CIRA grant.
