I. RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends authorizing American Office Solutions to Install a security system at the water treatment plant.
II. BACKGROUND:
In 2019, Public Works requested bids from various vendors for a camera security system at the water treatment plant. These bids were not attractive, and as such we began to look to alternatives. Now, staff has been working with American Office Solutions to provide a quote for these services.
III. DISCUSSION:
The water treatment facility is located in a remote area, and as such is at great risk for vandalism or worse. The system will be comprised of 18-1880p cameras with a 180-degree field of view. These will be strategically placed to provide optimum coverage.
The project also includes a wireless link between the water treatment facility and city hall. The benefit of this is three-fold. The connection will provide the water plant with a stable internet connection surpassing its current network, the connection will allow the Police Department as well as Public Works staff to monitor the plant remotely, and the plant will be able to utilize the same phone system as city hall.
IV. ALTERNATIVES:
- Find other vendors to provide this service
- Continue the status quo (nothing).
V. FISCAL IMPACT:
A quote is provided in the attachments. The price will be $52,761.53. This is a budgeted item, and will be billed to 501-503-84030 (Water Plant Building Repairs and Maintenance).
The installation of the required networking gear will allow two different services to be discontinued. The phone VOIP, valued at $61.03 per month, and Unwired Broadband valued at $200.00 per month. This is roughly a $3,120.00 savings per year. |
