I. RECOMMENDATION:
Authorization to Purchase a New Paving Machine for the Public Works and Utilities Department.
II. BACKGROUND:
The Public Works Department has been looking for a small paving machine in order to expand the scope of work that the City has the capacity to do on its own without bidding work. The purchase of a new paving machine will allow the public works department the ability to expand its paving capabilities beyond patch work which expands to water, sewer and gas leaks that require substantial street repair.
III. DISCUSSION:
The Salsco Mini-Asphalt Track Paver, TP44-TD will provide the Public Works Department the ability to pave/repair streets (from water, sewer, gas leaks/repairs), sidewalks, trails and parking lots at a 6.5' paving width and save time to enhance our efficiency. Currently the Public Works Department only has the patch truck which is limiting the scope of work the Department can undertake. This will be an asset to all departments such as water, sewer, and gas including streets.
Since this is a specific brand the City is looking to purchase we reached out to the local dealer for a quote for this item therefore, the City did not have to get multiple quotes and looking to sole source this purchase.
IV. ALTERNATIVES:
- Do not authorize the purchase of the Salsco Mini-Asphalt Track Paver.
V. FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost of the Salsco Mini-Asphalt Track Paver is $55,952.92. The funds will come from the Major Machinery and Equipment Budgets for Water, Sewer and Gas which have budgeted fund for this expense. A quote from the Dealer has been attached for the Council's review. | | |
