I. RECOMMENDATION:
Declare materials at the City materials yard surplus and authorizing the disposal of said material by hosting a day for the community to pick up items of interest.
II. BACKGROUND:
The City of Coalinga Public Works Department has a lots of material (junk) that has been placed a the material yard on Alcalde Road which has been piling up for several years and needs to be disposed of. This junk has no value to the City of Coalinga and the cost to haul this off is extremely expensive.
The materials and junk that is piled up at the yard includes:
- Old culvert pipes
- Broken light/sign poles
- Radom metal scrap
- Old water valves and fittings
- Broken scraped gas meters
- Scrap wood / pallets
III. DISCUSSION:
Staff is requesting that the City Council declare the junk surplus and then staff can advertise a day where residents can come to the yard and grab items that they would like and self-haul them off. Once the items if interest have been collected, staff would arrange to have the remaining items hauled off.
The City would have staff at the yard during the pick up to ensure items that the City wishes to retain remain in the yard.
IV. ALTERNATIVES:
None - Council may recommend a different course of action.
V. FISCAL IMPACT:
The fiscal impact is unknown can cannot be determined until staff is aware of how much material remains after residents have had an opportunity to take what they would like. The cost should be minimal and should not exceed the Public Works budget for the current fiscal year. |
