I.    RECOMMENDATION:

This item was requested as a Future Agenda Item by Councilman Ramirez and is recommended by the City Manager.

II.    BACKGROUND:

During the February 17, 2022, City Council Meeting, Councilman Ramirez asked for a Future Agenda Item to provide PPE to Kenneth (Kenny) Smith Jr. and his clean up crew who are volunteering their time completing community clean ups.

The City of Coalinga cannot purchase PPE and provide it to an individual.

City Manager Trejo contacted Mr. Smith and asked him if a local non-profit or for-profit business would be willing to accept the PPE donations to provide to Mr. Smith and his crew for community clean ups.  Mr. Smith stated that the Coalinga Elks would be willing to accept the donation.  City Manager confirmed this with the Coalinga Elks Exalted Ruler, Hayley Hill.

III.   DISCUSSION:

If this item is approved, City Manager Trejo will order the following PPE:

20 sets of snake chaps

20 sets of work gloves

500 face masks (already provided through donation)

48 bottles of hand sanitizer (already provided through donation)

Once received, City Manager Trejo will donate these items to the Coalinga Elks.

IV.   ALTERNATIVES:

Do not approve.

V.    FISCAL IMPACT:

Not to exceed $3,000.  This would be a one-time cost, from the City's General Fund and is unbudgeted.
