I. RECOMMENDATION:
Council authorization to purchase two (2) Pressure Reducing Valves in order to support the Derrick Rehabilitation Project in the amount of $35,094.78 from MRC Global.
II. BACKGROUND:
The 10” valve is needed for the Derrick Reservoir bypass. The current valve is very old and no longer functioning properly. This valve will be a critical component to ensure water delivery while Derrick reservoir is taken offline during it’s rehabilitation expected in 2022. The water plant operators will be able to monitor and adjust discharge pressure of the valve in order to reduce pressure to a manageable level for the town and to prevent damage from occurring in the distribution system.
The 12” valve for Hwy 198 and 33 will be replacing an existing pressure reducing valve that is old and outdated. This valve will also be controlled by the operators to regulate pressure and flow in the Posa Chanet sub-division and It will also help to manage flows to this section of the distribution system while Derrick reservoir is offline during rehabilitation and subsequent maintenance.
III. DISCUSSION:
The City solicitated 2 companies MRC Global and Cla-Val to submit costs estimates for the 2 PRV's and MRC Global was more affordable and what the City needs for these two locations. Both quotes have been attached for the Councils consideration.
IV. ALTERNATIVES:
Do not approve - staff does not recommend
V. FISCAL IMPACT:
The cost associated with these two (2) PRV's will be covered under the 2021 Water Bond Proceeds as part of the Derrick Reservoir Rehabilitation Project. |
