STAFF REPORT - CITY COUNCIL/SUCCESSOR AGENCY/PUBLIC FINANCE AUTHORITY

Subject:Presentation of Street Light Acquisition Feasibility by Tanko Lighting
Meeting Date:February 6, 2020
From:City Manager, Marissa Trejo
Prepared by:Larry Miller, Public Utilities Coordinator

I.    RECOMMENDATION:

Staff is seeking direction from the Council to continue to work with Tanko Lighting to develop a proposal for the audit and acquisition phase of the project.

II.    BACKGROUND:

Staff has been approached by Tanko Lighting regarding acquisition of our streetlights.  An initial study has been conducted by Tanko outlining potential costs, savings, and benefits.  These costs are outlined in the presentation.

The acquisition is to include full conversion from high pressure sodium to LED fixtures resulting in significant annual costs savings at some initial investment.  The City would also gain full autonomy over the system.  Including the ability to hang banners or any fixture desired.  Maintenance windows would also be reduced, as these claims would be handled by City staff.

It should be noted that this process has successfully been completed by many other valley cities such as Fresno, Bakersfield, and Mendota, and many more outside the valley.

III.   DISCUSSION:

Staff is looking for direction from City Council regarding next steps based on the presentation from Tanko Lighting.
