Staff is seeking direction from the Council as to how they would like address the commissioner term expirations in the Planning Commission. In this situation the Council has multiple options when appointing an existing or new member to the Commission:
- The Council may vote to reappoint the existing Commissioner to an additional term as he has expressed interest in doing so.
- Any member of the Council can make a motion nominating a member of the public to the commission and vote accordingly; or
- If members of the Council do not have an immediate recommendation to directly appoint they can direct the City Clerk to advertise for the Planning Commissioner position and staff will then bring back the list of applicants for consideration at a future meeting.
If Council chooses to advertise the open position, staff may reach out to previous applicants to see if they are interested in being appointed.
