I.    RECOMMENDATION:

Police Chief recommends approving the attached Contract and allow the City to sign the agreement to renew a 1 year contract with West Hills Community College. 

II.    BACKGROUND:

For the past three years the police department has provided West Hills College with a police officer to provide security and full police services to the college , students and staff.

 



III.   DISCUSSION:

This staff report is to provide the City Council a 1 year contract extension for 1 full time police officer.  West hills college has agreed to pay the full salary of the police officer along with additional associated costs.  The salary cost for the officer for the 19/20 school year is $91,135.54.  In addition WHC agrees to pay $200.00 a month for the use of the officers vehicle, $2,500.00 for fuel and repair cost and $1,200.00 for the officers uniforms.  The college agrees to pay the City in two equal payments.



IV.   ALTERNATIVES:

Do not approve the contract. If not approved, the contract will be cancelled and the police department will loose the officer position.

V.    FISCAL IMPACT:

The attached contract is for one year and would cost the city $97,235.54. The cost will be 100% reimbursed by WHCC. To ensure accountability and transparency, the Department requests that this program has its own budget center within the 101 series.
